The History Name Of Ma’rang
There are two version about this story, the first story is :Once upon a time the largely territorial of ma’rang’s district still covered by deluge forest. Many people come and make a new gathering place in the area. When they build their house suddenly they hear something strange , they hear strange voice. They hear a little child cry. Because they are vexed, they scatter to looking for the source of the sound. when they arrived at the source of the sound, they see a child sit on the stone crying and brawling. , he look like so sad. In bugis, crying and brawling its means “merrang”. The society in the area try to approaching the child, they want to know the cause of he roars. But, the child run soon into forest when saw the society.
Every day the society troubled by sound of the child and when the society come to approach the stone, the child certainly run away. Finally, the society in the area named the place with “merrang”. But in long time after that merrang changed by ma’rang.
The second version about this story is:
The second story is same with the first but the different just the source of the sound. The source of the story in this version is a baby. When they make a gathering place, they hear a baby crying. And then they walk around to looking for the source of the sound.
Crying in makassar language its means “amma’rang”. When the sosiecity hear baby’s sound one of them brawl “Nia’ amma’rang rinni ” its means “there are a baby crying”. in long time after that they named the place with amma’rang but now the name changed by ma’rang and finally the society live in the area.
